Mark Hanington

Managing Director

Mark has worked in financial services and asset management for nearly 10 years. He started his career at Henderson Global Investors. After four years training with the asset manager, he joined Fig and helped to grow the company from two employees to the FCA-authorised, corporate finance and fund-raising service provider Fig is today.

Mark has formed and sat on the boards of Fig and NMVC since 2011 and has extensive board experience from commitments to companies in the Fig portfolio and currently sits on the board of Property Detective.

James King

Business Development Director

James founded Fig to provide a pragmatic new approach to supporting and investing in high-growth early-stage companies. He built Fig with the support of angel investors who wanted to see a more consistent and practical approach to sourcing deal flow, as well as with the support of his business partners who are passionate about delivering the best possible services to founders.

James oversaw the development of the Fig services, the establishment of Fig’s student outreach programme, ESSA, and the creation of FIG Village alongside raising substantial capital for start-ups. In the past four years James has raised more than £19m for early-stage ventures, having identified investment opportunities for Fig's network of angel investors. James now manages New Model Venture Capital (NMVC). NMVC is an authorised fund manager, investing directly into the companies Fig supports as well as providing corporate finance services to a wide variety of clients.

Marco Geninazza

Operations Director

Marco is a Co-Founder and Director of Fig. In early 2013 Marco took over the management and build of the FIG Village project and was ultimately responsible for its success.  After a successful launch in May 2013, Marco took responsibility for the operations and marketing of the building.

Marco leads Fig’s new venture in west London, Fig City along with other property management opportunities.

Previous to Fig, Marco worked in senior roles at PR, marketing and events agencies and in 2008 he set up his own events company The Society London, which he successfully sold in 2010.

Adam Stankiewicz

Investment Director

As an Investment Director, Adam is responsible for deal origination and evaluation of investment opportunities.  Adam specialises in financial modelling and supports both New Model Venture Capital and Griffon Capital in their corporate finance work where he has completed M&A work for public companies and structured financial products.

Adam also has an active project manager role within Fig portfolio company Eulysis; a company he identified as an investment opportunity and has seen through two rounds of funding. Other deals he has worked on include leading New Model's investment in Live Better With. Adam began his career as an engineer at PACCAR and graduated from UCL with an MSc in Mechanical Engineering.

Katrina Lytton

Investment Manager

Katrina is an Investment Manager responsible for maintaining client and investor relationships and supporting portfolio company growth.

After graduating from the University of Bristol with a degree in French and German, Katrina started her career at KPMG, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant within its deal advisory team. She subsequently took on a sales and strategy role within the life sciences team, where she was responsible for leading the firm’s work within the nutrition sector, prior to joining Fig.

Heather Economides

Financial Controller

Heather joined the Fig team in February 2013 as Financial Controller. Throughout her career, she has worked in admin roles within a variety of industries such as insurance and sports news but the majority of her career has been in the IT industry for both hardware and software companies.

Before joining Fig, her most recent position was Head of Admin & Finance for a UK software start-up which grew and expanded into the US and was eventually sold to a major US software company.

Scott Austen

Fundraiser

Scott started at Fig in 2015 in the role of Fundraiser.

He has held several positions across various sectors. Included in these are luxury vehicle sales in the UK, founder of a property rental business in South Africa and managing the logistics for a maritime security company in the the Middle East.

More recently he was a senior commercial manager for a very successful international Fintech business based in the UK. 

He has brought this experience to Fig to developing expand the network of investors for the portfolio companies under Fig and for NMVC.

Peter Shipp

Analyst

Peter is part of the analyst team. He is responsible for deal review and due diligence.

He joined Fig as a graduate after completing his masters in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Leeds. Prior to graduating, Peter gained experience in Corporate Finance working with a boutique M&A firm in London as an analyst.

Andrea Razborsek

Executive Assistant

Andrea is Personal Assistant to James King and Executive Assistant to the directors of Fig. Her main responsibilities include looking after the Executive team and providing administrative support as well as making sure the office is running smoothly.

Prior to joining Fig, Andrea worked in a number of customer facing roles and has a degree in Psychology from Flinders University, South Australia.

Gemma Todd

Marketing and Communications Manager

Gemma is Fig's Marketing and Communications Manager and is responsible for the creation and implementation of all of the company's internal and external marketing activities. Her major responsibilities include brand and sponsor management, press relations, event management and shareholder communications. Gemma also oversees Fig's university enterprise scheme, The ESSA. 

After graduating from the University of Leeds with a degree in French, Gemma trained as a journalist, working as news reporter and freelance writer before joining Fig.

Associate

Simon is an innovation leader and expert; co-founder of employee innovation software company Wazoku and tech evangelist.

He is an active author, blogger and speaker on topics relating to collaborative innovation, crowdsourcing, co-creation, interpreneurship and more. His expertise has been recognised extensively, being awarded the prestigious title of Guardian SME Leader of the Year 2014 and noted as a Top 15 influencer in crowdsourcing both in 2013 and 2014. He is also an Angel Investor and advisor to several B2B and B2C early stage tech businesses.

Following a career in the city as a management consultant, Will began working with SMEs and Start-Ups as a strategy and business development consultant. With a particular interest in social impact and CSR Will became increasingly involved in the education sector. His expertise has seen him travel extensively at the request of the EU to advise on educational projects and enterprise education in particular.

Will is an Associate at Fig and supports both Fig and portfolio companies as a consultant.

James Herbert

Associate

James founded Brightsparks during his final year at Durham University. Starting from his mobile phone and laptop, Brightsparks has now directly employed over 11,000 students and recent graduates and has built a Graduate and Professional recruitment arm.

Its unique business model combines the concept of a university alumni network with a recruitment and staffing business, utilising its expertise, proprietary data and unparalleled network to close the disconnection between employers and their target candidates to ensure the best talent find the roles most suited to them. James also gained graduate experience as an Equities Sales Trader at Cazenove and an Analyst within Lloyd’s of London. After being introduced to James King he provided the initial funding and became a Non-Exec Director at Fig and, more recently, New Model Venture Capital (NMVC). Although he has now stepped down from these board roles to concentrate on building Brightsparks, James remains close to the business as an active investor.

Nopadon Wongpakdee

Nopadon is a digital marketing strategist, with more than 15 years’ online marketing expertise. He specialises in Inbound Marketing and SEO and works predominantly with pre-funded early stage businesses and startups.

Prior to consulting he worked for a variety of startups in Silicon Valley. He was the 10th employee at acclaimed London startup Huddle.com, where he was responsible for developing and executing their online marketing strategy.

Robin McIlvenny

Former Investment Bank CEO and UKTI Adviser

Robin has more than 30 years of experience in commercial and investment banking, having worked in senior positions with Deutsche Bank, Security Pacific National Bank, Creditanstalt and JP Morgan Group.

From 1991 to 2003, Robin was CEO of Bahrain International Bank and Chairman of Crown Dilmun Holdings, a Gulf-based investment bank and leading UK property developer, respectively. He has a wealth of expertise at investment committee level and exit strategy execution gained in the US, European and Far-East private equity markets.

Alongside his 20 years of private equity and VC investment experience, Robin is an active and highly successful angel investor. Robin is also an adviser to the UK Government Trade & Industry Dept (UKTI) on high value inward investment projects in Innovation and Regeneration.

James was co-founder and Group Managing Director of Incisive Media, a business he grew to over £250 million in revenue and 2,500 staff in under 13 years.

He floated Incisive Media on the main market of the LSE in December 2000 and subsequently completed a £275 million MBO, backed by Apax, in 2006. He has a hands on leadership style and is an experienced Board Director of both public and private companies and an active private investor.

David Marshall

Founder of Griffon Capital

David has specialised in all aspects of private equity for more than 30 years. David completed, in a lead capacity, his first cross-border, leveraged management buyout in 1983. He has since completed over 100 transactions in the UK, Europe and the USA as a principal investor, equity partner, corporate finance adviser or lender (mezzanine and senior debt) ranging from £100,000 to over £1 billion.

After spending three years in a senior position in a merchant banking operation for a European bank in New York, David spent eight years at a European investment bank as head of European Structured Finance. He was responsible for all European acquisition finance with teams in Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, Lisbon, Helsinki and Stockholm as well as private equity investing in the UK. David was also responsible for European securitisation activities.

In recent years, David has been a senior partner in a corporate finance boutique responsible for all financial sponsor transactions and principal investment investing opportunities as well as advising and investing for his own account.

Stephen Kelly

Founding Director of 2020 Chartered Accountants

Stephen Kelly is the co-founder of 2020 Chartered Accountants, which he started with Stephen Hay in 2000. They were looking to offer high quality, affordable accounting and finance support to growing businesses and Stephen’s experience means that he is able to offer advice and finance support in a proactive and pragmatic way.

He trained with KPMG in London within their Audit Department and has spent many years working within industry, including as Financial Controller for Richard Ellis (acquired by CB Commercial to form CBRE), now the world’s largest property services firm.

Lee Farrant

Director of experiential marketing agency RPM

Lee has spent his life working in photography and sport. Having previously owned a photography business covering football, rugby and cricket as well as the winter and summer Olympics, he then spent five years covering Formula One. This was followed by 12 years as Photography Director on Camel Trophy, an adventure expedition supported by Land Rover.

Lee brought this strong and varied experience in sports to RPM in 1996, where he currently works with visual media and sports clients; including Sky Cycling, The England and Wales Cricket Board and The Laureus Sports Foundation.

Lee is a committee member of Superbrands and SkyVelo Cycling Club, A Trustee of Middlesex County Cricket Club and a Community Governor working with Hammersmith and Fulham. He is also the Founder of ‘Focus on Life’ a charity using the power of photography to raise money for deserving causes.

As the founding partner of RPM, Hugh launched the agency in a Wokingham cowshed in January 1993 after identifying a burgeoning opportunity for brands within the experiential market. 21 years on and his pioneering vision for an independent marketing agency, has developed into a multi award-winning business, employing 160 people and delivering multi-channel global campaigns for clients including Diageo, Nestle, M&S, ECB, Mondelez and BSkyB.

Andy is a Partner with SoftTech VC, one of the most active Bay Area seed stage investors. Prior to joining SoftTech in 2015, Andy was co-founder of London-based Huddle, a leading enterprise content collaboration company.

John Yeomans

Chairman of Cambridge Angels

John is an angel investor specialising in data businesses, particularly in digital media and communications.

Robin Burman

Robin Burman is co-owner and finance director of RPM Ltd, one of the UK's largest independent marketing agencies.

After studying politics at university he set up his own business distributing West Country cider to wholesalers and independent retailers across the UK. This whetted his appetite to learn more about business and a decision to train as an accountant with Coopers & Lybrand where he worked for a number of years firstly in audit and then in their corporate finance division.
