James founded Brightsparks during his final year at Durham University. Starting from his mobile phone and laptop, Brightsparks has now directly employed over 11,000 students and recent graduates and has built a Graduate and Professional recruitment arm.

Its unique business model combines the concept of a university alumni network with a recruitment and staffing business, utilising its expertise, proprietary data and unparalleled network to close the disconnection between employers and their target candidates to ensure the best talent find the roles most suited to them. James also gained graduate experience as an Equities Sales Trader at Cazenove and an Analyst within Lloyd’s of London. After being introduced to James King he provided the initial funding and became a Non-Exec Director at Fig and, more recently, New Model Venture Capital (NMVC). Although he has now stepped down from these board roles to concentrate on building Brightsparks, James remains close to the business as an active investor.
